Carvings and heirloom treasures of handmade woodwork in Canberra
Hand planed salvaged timber
Hand planed salvaged timber
Windfall Wood displays the work of Harry Kenney, a woodworker who started out with timber working in a sawmill. Since those days and working with wood as an amateur carver for over thirty years, Harry has developed a range of skills using and converting timbers that normally get thrown away.
Windfall Wood now specialises in traditional wood carvings and innovative styles fusing décor with the practicalities of modern life. Hand carved, oiled and polished – heirlooms in timber that step outside the ordinary.
Windfall Wood uses reclaimed and recycled timbers for most items.
Reclaimed or salvaged timber is generally sourced from waste that is destined to be thrown away and may include off-cuts from building works. A favoured source of reclaimed timber are local gardens – tree removal and pruning provides a wealth of timber from both Australian native and exotic tree species. Many treasures can be made with a little imagination from wood that is normally mulched or simply thrown away.
Recycled timber comes from many sources and has all been used before - normally as part of a building or piece of furniture. Windfall Wood collects suitable timber, processes it and surprises people with what can be created from waste products.
Some projects require new timber to meet the expectations of the final user, in that case Windfall Wood uses plantation timber or sustainably harvested timbers wherever possible.
